At the 2023 Auto Expo, a prototype of the Maruti Wagon R Flex Fuel was shown for attendees to see. To fill you in, the very first time the model was delivered to the public was in December of 2022 at the SIAM Ethanol Technology Exhibition in New Delhi.

According to Maruti’s assertions, the flex-fuel version of the WagonR was created and developed in the country Maruti with assistance from Suzuki Motor Corporation. The prototype of the hatchback’s engine is able to function on an ethanol-to-gasoline ratio ranging from 20 percent (E20) to 85 percent (E85).

The new Maruti WagonR Flex Fuel prototype is equipped with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine as part of its powertrain arrangement. It operates effectively with a flex-fuel range that extends from E20 to E85. The gasoline engine has a peak power output of 88.5 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. A few adjustments have been made to the gasoline engine that Maruti Suzuki manufactures so that it is better able to resist the corrosive effects of ethanol and has a reduced calorific value.

The motor incorporates innovative technology for the fuel system, such as an ethanol sensor for determining the ethanol percentage and a heated fuel rail for facilitating a cold start. In point of fact, its engine management system, fuel injectors, and fuel pump, in addition to several other components, have all been upgraded. Additionally, the engine complies with the even more stringent pollution norms of BS6 Phase II. The manual gearbox has five speeds, and it is included with the prototype.

According to the manufacturer, the ethanol fuel-based WagonR has the potential to lower tailpipe emissions by 79% when compared to the conventional ICE-powered vehicle. It is expected to provide power and performance comparable to the standard gasoline variant. I

t has been verified by Maruti Suzuki that the company’s first vehicle to use flex-fuel would be in the compact class and that it will be on sale by the year 2025. If what is being reported is accurate, the whole product portfolio of the corporation will be E20 compliant by March 2023 at the latest.

Maruti Suzuki has also been working to broaden the range of CNG vehicles it offers in this nation. In the next couple of years, it also intends to launch other powerful hybrid models in addition to pure-electric automobiles.
