The BYD Seal electric car would be the 3rd model the Chinese EV manufacturer sells in the nation. The electric vehicle will come on the market in the 4th quarter of 2023 after making its official premiere at this year’s Auto Expo (possibly in September–October). Ex-showroom, the price is likely to be approximately Rs. 70 lacs. The Seal competes with the hugely successful Tesla Model 3 in international countries (such as the US and China).

BYD Seal electric car
The electric car will be available with two battery pack configurations, an 82.5 kWh and a 61.4 kWh based on the brand’s e-Platform 3.0. The larger battery gives a range of up to 700 km, while the smaller battery pack guarantees a capacity of 550 km on – the Chine Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The charging rates for the 82.5 kWh and the 61.4 kWh batteries may reach 150 kW and 110 kW, respectively.

According to the automaker, the BYD CTB (Cell to Body) tech in the electric sedan enhances “the vehicle safety, stability, handling, and performance.” Here, the AWD (all-wheel drive) and dual-motor configuration of the BYD Seal will be offered. The maximum output of the electric motors installed on the front and rear axles is 218 bhp and 312 bhp, respectively. The total output power is 530 horsepower. The electric vehicle has a 3.8 second – 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time.

The BYD Seal has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a spinning, 15.6-inch touchscreen entertainment system. Two wireless charging stations, a head-up display, a scroll wheel to choose between driving modes, a premium audio system, a heated windscreen, and more are included.

The Ocean X concept served as inspiration for the Seal electric sedan’s design and aesthetics. It has an all-glass roof that resembles a coupe and has a split headlight, flush-fitting door handles, a full-width LED light bar at the back, and four LED DRLs in the shape of boomerangs. Model dimensions are 4800 mm long, 1875 mm wide, and 1460 mm tall.
